REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Elora Condron 5/26/2024 11:09 AMSome of our barriers are, that we don't have full access to medicine, and we can't access our basic medical needs without serious struggle. This tends to be a global problem and a community problem. Women around the world struggle to get the things they need. A few examples are, that we have trouble getting financial resources and technology, lack of access to land, and even gender-based violence. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Elora Condron 5/25/2024 4:45 PMWe would need to make our support bigger from throughout the community, and across city government departments, as well as broaden our engagement. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Elora Condron 5/21/2024 5:29 PMSome of the things that I have learned are that an estimated 257 million women who want to avoid pregnancy are not using safe and effective family planning methods. Another thing is that this is one of the things that threatens women's ability to build a better future, for themselves and their families.
Lower-income countries have more needs, and more basic needs compared to the people in higher-income countries (partially to do with the money and resources that they each have available). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Elora Condron 5/16/2024 7:31 AMI would probably install new lights for one of the other systems in my house -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Elora Condron 5/13/2024 8:09 AMAnywhere not blocking access to the wind, for example, the top of the county building -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Elora Condron 5/09/2024 1:58 PMA couple things that I have learned are that biofuels are created by converting biomass into liquid fuels to meet transportation needs, and that biomass solution uses the use of perennial biomass to generate electricity and heat. Some off the things that I found surprising were how biomass can be converted into chemicals for making plastics and other products but they are typically made from petroleum, and another thing that I thought was surprising/cool was that Perennials are generally defined as plants that live three or more years. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Elora Condron 5/03/2024 7:51 AMWell because palm oil is used in many beauty products but not all, we can help to decrease the use and need for these by looking at the bottle, reading it, and if it uses this then choosing not to purchase it and finding one that doesn’t will be a step to take that will help the peatlands. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Elora Condron 4/30/2024 5:57 PMI learned that the worlds use of refrigerants has lead to a hole in our ozone layer. Supermarkets contribute to this by making a big contribution to what is being produced because they use a lot of refrigerants to keep their many cold aisles cold. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Elora Condron 4/25/2024 8:04 AMEating less red meat and more fruits and veggies can help with cholesterol and cardiovascular problems.
