  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Miles Walton-Thach 5/17/2024 11:56 AM
I replaced my basement lights with new lightbulbs that are better for the environment and that will save energy and money.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Miles Walton-Thach's avatar
    Miles Walton-Thach 5/15/2024 5:39 AM
Microturbines could be built on any tall building downtown, such as the Jackson building, or maybe even buildings around the UNCA campus.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

No, I have never heard of it and I learned a lot about it but the thing that I learned the most about is probably about how we get that energy from the place and kinda how we just move energy and then we are able to use it to help power stuff for us.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Miles Walton-Thach's avatar
    Miles Walton-Thach 5/03/2024 9:31 AM
You could donate or go on social media and help fight for them. You could also educate people about them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Miles Walton-Thach's avatar
    Miles Walton-Thach 4/30/2024 9:58 AM
They put in chemicals that are not good for the environment and they cause harm to the atmosphere. Store help contributes to it because there are so many refrigerators and freezers in them so they mas producing those chemicals.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Miles Walton-Thach's avatar
    Miles Walton-Thach 4/29/2024 9:04 AM
I learned that there are so many different ways of transportation that everyone has different options and that we can make people have more efficient ways of transportation we should try and do this cause its better for the environment
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Miles Walton-Thach's avatar
    Miles Walton-Thach 4/25/2024 9:43 AM
I think that knowing the difference between the two helps people understand because we can see which foods we need to use first and the most and we can also plan out which foods we should buy and use a different times so we won't waste food.
