Refrigerant Management
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the climate impact of refrigerants and what climate-friendly refrigerants are by using the links below.
Industry
Research Local Waste and Recycling Depots
o learn more about what is and is not recyclable in our area as well as how to properly dispose of hard to recycle materials to reduce my harmful impacts on the local environment AND learn how indigenous peoples and POC are more likely to be impacted by waste sites and pollution on a global scale.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks

I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Reduced Food Waste
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
August Boachie 5/15/2024 1:34 PMI have learned that biomass is a renewable source, that acts without carbon and it is versatile. What has been surprising to me is that biomass is very consistent and can hold a reliable energy supply. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
August Boachie 5/15/2024 1:19 PMMIcroturbines could really be implemented anywhere. The location I see fit best is downtown. Their are a ton of tall buildings and planters these microturbines can go to efficiently power the city. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
August Boachie 5/13/2024 7:49 AMIt can be a very bad thing if you eat it in surplus however in moderation it is great for you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
August Boachie 5/13/2024 7:48 AMAn advantage that helps me the most is knowing that I am being healthy and no animals are dying at my hands -

August Boachie 5/07/2024 7:02 AMThat the animals in the ocean rely on us to have the water be clean and healthy -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
August Boachie 5/03/2024 7:29 AMStop supporting the products that come from the peatlands and instead buy things that have been derived from safe agricultural practices. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
August Boachie 4/30/2024 8:28 AMIt was discovered that a single supermarket releases 875 pounds (400 kilograms) of HFCs annually on average, which is the same amount of carbon emissions as 300 cars. It was determined that supermarket HFC leaks in the United States alone are equivalent to burning 22 million tonnes of coal in terms of global warming. -

August Boachie 4/29/2024 5:48 AMMy aha moment was when I finally understood how I can impact the environment and what some bad habits are. As a kid we were all warned about climate change and it was very vague and non specific but now I know exactly what the issue is and how I can help -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate My Household Carbon FootprintAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
August Boachie 4/26/2024 7:37 AMYes, I need to begin turning off the lights when I leave my room and drying my clothes outside to prevent the dryer from running too much electricity. I will think about the environment and ways I can lower my carbon footprint.
