REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Solomon Wilson 5/07/2024 6:49 AMThis is an extreme amount of money used just to waste food. I would rather save this money for a new car or college. People should start to only buy the amount of food that they know they will consume and not throw out so much. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Solomon Wilson 5/03/2024 9:31 AMTo protect peat lands from afar, you can reduce greenhouse emissions by driving less cars. You can also protect them by preventing wildfires and taking care of local water sources by purifying and regulating the water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Solomon Wilson 5/02/2024 11:23 AMIn richer countries, people are able to eat more things that they enjoy such as meat. Eating more meat affects our bodies by raising our cholesterol and leading to many deadly diseases. It also negatively affects the planet by leading to deforestation and destruction of soil and grasslands. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Solomon Wilson 5/01/2024 4:55 PMI learned that there are many facilities where you can recycle other than a curbside bin in our community. In order for supermarkets to keep foods at the right temperature, they are required to have refrigerators. Because of this, they have a bigger impact on releasing refrigerants into the atmosphere which damages the climate. -
