REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
India Vrable 5/03/2024 7:53 AMI have a forest and the French Broad river right outside my house and I never go down there and now that I have gone I will do it all the time. It was so pretty and calming. But the river was very brown. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
India Vrable 5/03/2024 7:30 AMMost of Indonesia’s peatlands have been burned emitting carbon into the air. This can be prevented by spreading the word about this so more people can protest and stop using the palm oil and paper.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Try CarpoolingList some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
India Vrable 5/01/2024 9:32 AMTo after school sports we are able to carpool but we have been doing that anyways. Driving to and from school with people in your neighborhood or on the way is another good idea. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
India Vrable 5/01/2024 9:29 AMI think that having side walks added to our street would be helpful because it would be more safe. I really enjoy going on walks because now it is getting warm so the breeze and sun feels so good and refreshing. I have noticed that a lot of other houses in our neighborhood are getting renewed. Last year I always did this walk when it was warm and now that I am doing it again so much has changed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?
India Vrable 5/01/2024 7:47 AMIt is a lot more tiring and takes a lot longer. I biked over to my friends house and it took so much longer and then when I had to leave it was dark out and my mom didn't want me out alone so she picked me up. But once I arrived I felt like I helped out the environment but I only saved 10 minutes in the car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
India Vrable 4/30/2024 8:07 AMcontribute to this problem because they are continuing to use HCFC in their products and selling them to people. The refrigerators are having leaks as well which emits more HCFC. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
India Vrable 4/29/2024 11:53 AMWealthier countries are able to eat more meat because meat is expensive especially if you want to make sure you are eating good meat and not meat that is processed with a lot of chemicals. Meat is a good source of protein but it can have e-coli in it which is bad for you It could be very dangerous. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
India Vrable 4/29/2024 11:45 AMWe could use this money to help make food for the hungry or we could use this money to help pay for bills. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
India Vrable 4/25/2024 7:31 AMI now know that we can eat past the expiration date because the date is telling when the food tastes its best rather than when food goes bad. This means that food can sit longer and so there is more time for food to get eaten and not wasted. If food does end up getting wasted there are donation spots for the food to go to.
