  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

Getting geothermal energy to heat and cool buildings and houses.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Margot Voorhees 5/16/2024 6:47 AM
They can be installed anywhere in my city.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

I have not heard of biomass technology before today. I was surprised to learn that there's a type of grass that doesn’t need that many resources but still is productive and I was surprised by the fact that biomass can make plastic and can replace petroleum.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Margot Voorhees's avatar
    Margot Voorhees 4/30/2024 6:27 AM
Reducing paper use and the food we eat that has palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Margot Voorhees's avatar
    Margot Voorhees 4/29/2024 5:34 AM
If you use smaller portions you're less likely to waste food since you aren't loading up your plate with food you might not eat
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I noticed a lot of plants in my neighborhood. I enjoyed seeing the flowers, it would be nice to see more trees around.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

When I'm eating with screens I don't really talk to my family and I'm more absorbed with what's on my phone. Yesterday when I had dinner I left my phone in my room and talked to my family about our plans for the week.
