  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

Microwind turbines generate electricity using wind. The wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical power. That can produce electricity without producing emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

Biomass energy trades in carbon that is already in the atmosphere. What is surprising to me is biofuels produce no carbon emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Malyla Vazquez 4/30/2024 6:33 AM
You can reduce the amount of products you use that contain paper. You can also reduce the amount of products you consume with palm oil products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Malyla Vazquez's avatar
    Malyla Vazquez 4/25/2024 5:41 AM
People in richer countries consume meat more than other places because meat is so cheap and mass-produced in places like America. Eating meat can be good for your body, but if it's greasy, it can be really bad. Eating a lot of meat can be bad for the planet because cows produce methane and animal waste which can get into water sources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food Waste
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I would rather spend my money on buying clothes, shoes, and gifts for my friends and family. In addition to that I would also like to spend that money on a Lemonade stand.
