When women have the chance to work, many men look down at them and underestimate them. Women's wages are usually lower than a male's wage. It all depends on culture too. For me, my grandma didn't work and stayed at home with her kids and took care of them. My grandpa usually went out to work and maintain her. My mom stopped that, she met my dad and they both agreed they would BOTH work and help with the children. My grandma is still in the original culture that she grew up in but my mom wanted something different in her life. Thanks to her, at least my generation has a choice to either work, or stay as a housewife.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Ghinell Salmeron's avatar
    Ghinell Salmeron 5/15/2024 8:02 AM
I learned how difficult it was for many women to plan a family and how much they impact the emissions on carbon dioxide. Lots of people who live in the United states have more available resources for family planning than other people from around the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Ghinell Salmeron's avatar
    Ghinell Salmeron 5/14/2024 8:08 AM
Rebuilding homes where a geothermal system can be placed.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Ghinell Salmeron's avatar
    Ghinell Salmeron 5/13/2024 8:08 AM
Micro turbines can be placed somewhere where there is a flat area, and near downtown.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

No I have never heard of biomass technology. What surprised me the most is that you can you almost anything to make electricity
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Ghinell Salmeron's avatar
    Ghinell Salmeron 5/03/2024 7:51 AM
Stop agriculture conversion and draining. Prevent wildfires from happening, like picking up cigarettes or throwing them away in the trash.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Ghinell Salmeron's avatar
    Ghinell Salmeron 5/02/2024 7:42 AM
The higher the temperature, the more heat they will absorb instead of water. Supermarkets use HCFC to keep items frozen.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

I feel like these labels can help us which products to buy first and which ones can wait till when you come back. This can help with throwing away perfectly good products into waste.
