  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

Use wing turbines in our mountains and valley ways between mountains to give us more renewable energy without raising housing costs and try cleaning up the French Broad as its filled with E-Coli to allow people to go out and enjoy the river again getting more people to go outside.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Samuel Prague 5/20/2024 9:08 AM
It felt good talking walks, as I live more on the country side of Asheville so its some pretty housing and trees and mountains I get to look at while walking to the end of my road and back. Although there is no side walk on my road so I just had to walk on the grass and move away a bit if any cars came by so even a small sidewalk would be nice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/17/2024 9:32 AM
In many countries barries are put in place to keep women to participate economically and to get a higher education, or some are expected to become mothers by 13-14. And others laws are put in place for them to be paid less or just have less opportunities to do anything in their town and country. Which is why many companies and groups are trying to fix this problem around the globe, giving education and jobs to help women creat income or get a higher education. And teaching them about the environment and ways they can help and improve it to make our planet better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/15/2024 9:38 AM
I learned its a lot bigger of a need for families in other parts of the world then i thought, and that they don’t usually have access to many pregnancy prevention methods Im lower-income or poorer countries and places around the world its harder for families to do family planning without access to many of the items and things we take for granted over here in the united states.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/14/2024 9:41 AM
Supporting local or just any politicians in general who want to try and push geothermal energy and make it more accessible. Or even giving small donations to places try to convert to geothermal or industries and companies helping to turn places geothermal.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/13/2024 9:29 AM
Microturbines could be installed on top of some of our taller building sin downtown Asheville, or sites ontop of mountains in the area can be used as microwind turbine generation sites as well
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

It sounded familiar when i first heard about it but i don't really remember anything about it until i started doing research just now. But it seems like a good ad efficient fuel source we can use to help reduce CO2!. i also didn't know you could manure as a fuel source of biomass, since we have so many cow farms we basically have an infinite source of manure so it seems even more perfect!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/06/2024 8:45 AM
Reducing how much food I put on my plate, refusing too much of something, repair older stuff so I don't need to constantly buy something, and re-purpose something even after its served its main purpose
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Samuel Prague's avatar
    Samuel Prague 5/03/2024 9:13 AM
Support politicians and other people in power who want to preserve peatlands and keep them safe and be sure not to do any acts they may result in damaging any peatlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I learned about how CFCs which we used to use for a lot fo production was depleting our ozone layer a lot so we decided to switch to HCFCs which were not as bad for the ozone layer but was a MAJOR problem for global warming being even worse then carbon dioxide. But now were starting to phase out of those as well.
