  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/29/2024 8:41 AM
My eating experience helps me focus on the people around me. Eating mindfully has also helped me finish my meals faster since I don't have a phone to distract me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/29/2024 8:36 AM
My city or town can make its climate action plans equitable and socially just by providing a cleaner environment without raising the housing prices. Instead of just having houses directly near the greenery, build them around town as well as expanding the green spaces around town.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/21/2024 6:41 AM
Some barriers that women face are in the workplace because they tend to get paid less than a man in the same job position. Another barrier women face is with doctors wrongly prescribing them things and not doing enough research on the female body. I think we can address these barriers by giving women equal pay and learning more about the female body.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/20/2024 6:33 AM
I learned that family planning is a very important issue when talking about overpopulation. Poor family planning greatly impacts our communities and the amount of people we bring into the world every year. With poor family planning we could have a population of up to 10.1 billion people by 2050. The needs of different people in different places change due to location, communities, culture, and government. Some places have more access to resources and family planning than others.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/15/2024 8:02 AM
An investment that seems most feasible to me is to build a few geothermal power plants to see how citizens like them and if they do to continue the spread of geothermal power plants throughout the country. We could also, if the power plants are received positively, encourage other countries to join and build geothermal power plants of their own.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/13/2024 7:24 AM
Micro turbines could potentially be installed in a field or on the tops of buildings in my city. These locations would be best due to greater exposure to the flow of wind. A turbine on the ground near buildings could have the buildings block the wind or the turbine could hit a pedestrian.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/09/2024 8:02 AM
I have heard of biomass technology before this. Something that surprised me is that biomass can greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/07/2024 7:06 AM
On my daily walks I have noticed the pretty flowers that are starting to bloom and all of the dogs that live in my neighborhood. I have enjoyed my walks because I live in a flat area with sidewalks. My walks could be more enjoyable if there were more crosswalks at road intersections.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 5/03/2024 7:30 AM
Something I can do to help protect the peatlands is researching ways to help restore them and spreading awareness about the situation. I can also stop using products that contain palm oil and get others to do the same to bring down the demand for palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Anna Payne's avatar
    Anna Payne 4/30/2024 8:42 AM
I learned that refrigerators are helping to accelerate the speed of the ozone layers destruction. Supermarkets contribute to this by having aisles of refrigerators to store their food.
