    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    carsen holbrook's avatar
    carsen holbrook 5/03/2024 7:22 AM
We can help peatlands by preserving land and preventing fires so the air is less dirty. Overall just keeping our environment clean.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    carsen holbrook's avatar
    carsen holbrook 5/03/2024 7:16 AM
This makes me want to help our environment and clean up after myself. The way that people hurt our earth feels overwhelming. People who volunteer to help make me feel more hopeful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    carsen holbrook's avatar
    carsen holbrook 5/03/2024 7:00 AM
Sometimes I'll watch TV while I eat or get distracted on my phone so now I'll work on not multitasking while eating. I'll be more mindful about what I do while eating and where I eat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    carsen holbrook 4/30/2024 6:54 AM
Other benefits from eating smaller portions is not wasting so much food if you don't end up finishing it. It can save more food and your body can process the food better when eating smaller portions.

On my daily walks I notice nature more and it's very calming. I enjoy being alone and just being calm while i take a walk. Sometimes I'll walk by a creek and I listen to music to make my walks more enjoyable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Plastics Audit
What was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?

    carsen holbrook's avatar
    carsen holbrook 4/29/2024 8:42 AM
Something that was hard for me to get used to reduce or recycle was plastic bags for lunch. I didn't always know you should recycle them because sometimes there would be food on the inside. I found a way to do it by recycling them after I use them and trying to put more things in containers.
