  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/29/2024 2:53 PM
What could be a good step would be getting energy star appliances.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/29/2024 2:47 PM
It improves soil health by retaining water and nutrients, helps plants grow better, and reduces the need for fertilizers which is good.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Watch Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series
What was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/29/2024 2:40 PM
something I learned was regeneration, which means restoring ecosystems to their best state. This can help fight climate change..
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/26/2024 3:53 PM
Tidal power is clean energy but it can harm marine animals and plants . But it is clean and useful compared to other harmful ways to get fuel and energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Explore Other Transportation Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/26/2024 3:40 PM
The most interesting thing I found was carpooling can really help save our environment and it can help out people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/24/2024 11:05 AM
We can make our city more socially just by making it greener and encouraging people to get out and about. By doing this we can make it more inclusive and apply this to lower income neighborhoods. But make the plans easier to apply and this can create a healthy community
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/21/2024 5:31 PM
What I learned was that family planning is a right everyone should have and that not having access to that knowledge can hurt someone's future.
The needs of different people compare to each other because some people might not have access to certain things but they could still have the knowledge and they could think about it to possibly make their future more stable.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Share Bioplastic Disposal Tips
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/21/2024 5:11 PM
What concerns me is how much we consume and how the average American would need more then 3 earths for everyone to live like them. Also people in our city have no problem leaving their trash everywhere which is concerning to see what it is like in a huge city. What we can do is be mindful and reduce the use of single use plastics.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/17/2024 11:23 AM
Some barriers that exist in women's equality on a global scale are that in some countries there are some laws that only discriminate against women, restricting their rights like inheritance, property ownership, and divorce. In many parts of the world, girls have less access to education than boys this is very bad and can affect their future a lot. Lots of women entrepreneurs can face greater challenges in accessing funding and credit which makes it very hard to start their business in the right direction. These barriers exist because of the outdated unfair standards that were put in place a long time ago.We can help stop these ideas by implementing and enforcing laws that promote gender equality and also protect against discrimination, and ensure women's rights.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Tollan Hernandez-Verde's avatar
    Tollan Hernandez-Verde 5/13/2024 11:24 AM

We could install micro turbines on big hotels in Asheville and we could install them for our schools to save money and have a cleaner environment. We could also use them on the many apartment complexes we have in Asheville.
