REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Libby Hayes 4/28/2024 9:31 AMI have never thought about why certain countries eat more meat than others. I feel here in America we want choices and variety where when I've visitied other countries, they seem more content with eating similar meals more often. Maybe that is why we include various types of forms of meat in our diet, because we can and want the choices. Some countries literally eat rice and beans every day, that is rare in the states unless you have an economic reason to need to. Eating meat is bad for the planet due to how those animals take up space for their farms as well as methane when you speak about cows. I reduce red meat in my diet most of the time, but it's hard for me to give up chicken. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Libby Hayes 4/28/2024 9:27 AMMy son got a free tree from his school to plant for Earth Day. We got a native tree that we put in our backyard but it is sooo small. A reminder of how much care and time each tree needs to become the big trees we respect and are in awe of helps you think differently about your paper/wood use. Digging in our Oklahoma clay was indeed something for my physical health, even if it was a small hole. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Libby Hayes 4/12/2024 12:20 PMSpending time outdoors for me is very necessary for refreshing my soul. When I'm outside, not only do I have an appreciation for nature, but I find it to be very spiritual and I feel closer to God while out in nature away from everything that is so man-made. -
Libby Hayes 4/12/2024 12:17 PMWhile the bake sale was super enticing today, I chose to bring a small portion of puppy chow from home so that my portion size would be controlled, and I wouldn't overeat. By not taking food that I might not like and then throw away, I was contributing to having less food waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Libby Hayes 4/05/2024 12:23 PMHealth benefits obviously. I normally like a large lunch and fill my bowl when preparing what I bring to work. And then since it's already at work, I just eat it all. Today I chose a smaller bowl for my chili and therefore ate less at work. This needs to become a habit and then my leftovers also last longer!
