I met all my goals for Thursday, Feb. 29th but didn't get them posted before midnight.

Before purchasing a carbon offset, it's important to determine whether the offset is measurable, meets the highest standards, and long-lasting.

We walked along the same route as yesterday to buy a book at a local independent book store and some special donuts for a gift. As well, we walked Winnie several times around some new roads to us in a different neighbourhood. We have noticed that there are several park areas available for people to sit down, children can play on various park equipment, and there are areas for dogs to run after balls or at other times, those areas can be used by kids to play games and sports. The neighbourhoods in this Ottawa downtown core are people-oriented, even though there are 2-lane and 4-lane roads running through them. There are sidewalks on both sides of the streets and there are some one-way streets too.

I love how downtown Ottawa is so walkable and bikeable. There's practically a bike repair store every few blocks! It has such a community feel. And it's wonderful to be able to find most of what you need nearby.

Walked the dog briskly along the wide enough sidewalk of a major street to buy a baguette at a bakery. We walked along a bridge that was over a railroad track . We noticed that a paved walkway had been built along the length of the railway track to create a public walkway that was being used in the early morning of our walk by people getting exercise by running along it and cycling along it. What a terrific idea!

As I walked along one of the downtown Ottawa street, I was pleased to see that the sidewalks were in pretty good repair. I didn't trip along uneven surfaces that could have been found on older sidewalks.

Walked about the Ottawa neighbourhoods while walking Winnie the dog. We see a lot of people walking along the streets to their bus stops, to work, to shop, to walk their dogs, etc. There are bus stops conveniently at certain corners so that people don't have to own a car and drive it to work.

I met a friend with her dog and we walked along a snow-covered path along the northern shore of the Ottawa river. We met someone skipping stones on the open Ottawa River. We were surprised to see someone doing this and commented how unusual to see this on the Ottawa River in February!!! This river is usually frozen over and very thick so that people can walk or ride their fat bikes on the ice along the shoreline.

We walked around several neighbourhoods in downtown Ottawa while walking our son's dog. Some streets had very narrow sidewalks, especially with the large green, brown and black bins that lined the edges of the sidewalks on garbage day. On some sidewalks, it was too narrow to pass another pedestrian without stopping and waiting for the other person to pass before continuing on our walk.
