November 21 at 8:19 AMStill trying to make a little headway with folks on Next Door. It's quite true that solar panels are expensive. It's also true that PG&E is trying it's best to kill solar installations. But none the less, we live in the land of sunshine. Come on folks!!
-
November 17 at 9:09 AMThe garden is never done. I actually have two more specific gardens to create, but I have to start over in Next Door when the time comes!
-
November 17 at 9:05 AMI don't know that going "all electric" can be referred to as "diversifying my energy supply". But we didn't want gas of any kind up here in the country, so we ditched propane. Down in town, at the rental, we also ditched natural gas, and the renters have a heat pump water heater.
-
November 17 at 9:02 AMA question I need to do a deeper dive into: I've over-panelled my house with solar (because the roof configuration isn't ideal). Should I now spend even more money to insulate the open-beamed roof, since I'm heating the house with "free" sunshine power? We bought the house for the beauty of the vaulted ceiling, but it is not insulated.

November 17 at 8:57 AMwent after the gophers today. The bobcats and hawks that hunt the field next door love a free gopher.
-
November 13 at 5:20 PMHydronic floors run by an electric heat pump. Took out the old propane furnace. How DELICIOUS not to have forced air blowing around people with allergies!!!!!
-
November 12 at 8:05 AMTook out the wood stove which ate up a huge corner of the living space, and in stalled hydronic flooring instead.
-
November 10 at 8:30 AMWe moved. Which means we had to do a lot of work on the new (broken) house. New 50 year roof. New solar. Whole house battery.
-
November 1 at 12:25 PMJoining this for the rest of the year.

October 12 at 9:14 PMMy aha moment is walking with my kids in a forest and my daughter picking up trash that people had left behind. It made me think about what I am leaving behind for them and I want to do better.
