Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

I decided to make sushi as my recipe that contained seaweed. I went to Adam's and got all the ingredients (sushi rice, seaweed sheets, cucumbers, mangoes, avocados, salmon, canned crab). We made many plates of sushi for his parents and us for dinner. It was a little difficult to make the rolls in the beginning but in the end we started to get the hang of it. We will in the future make more sushi rolls because we had a fun time making them and they turned out really yummy.

Yesterday morning as I left my house at 6:45 am to drive to work, the moon looked absolutely beautiful! I started thinking about this class and the ways I have been trying to help with sustainability. I speak to the members in my house, my family, my coworkers of things we could do, which is great! But then I thought of how many people are actually on Earth. What is the biggest way to get so many to change and consider sustainability in their everyday lives, how could we get the government to understand why it is so important to step back a moment? Inflation is at an all time high and the basic need of eating is so expensive... I became sadden with the thought that a change would be so difficult. My question for you guys is, how can we make a major change? that will have a domino effect on the rest of the people! What could we do to make all the small work become a worldwide challenge?

I have been paying more attention to the items I purchase, and make sure to recycle correctly. I have implemented a "correct recycle" system in my workplace and it is exciting. I have asked all of my coworkers at the office to make sure they clean out containers (of any kind) before recycling them. One of my coworkers has taken the system to her own home!

My challenge is going good. While I never really gave much thought to expiration dates. I always treated them as law, since I never wanted to get sick. In doing just 30 minutes of research I learned lots about these dates. One of the most surprising to me is that the dates are not regulated by the FDA which I think is crazy, I thought thats something the FDA would be all over. Its impossible to label; in advance when a food will exactly go bad so foods should be good as long as their are no signs of spoilage. Expiration dates have more to do with the foods overall quality and texture as after these dates they are no longer fresh or at peak flavor. I did find these dates should be used when giving formulas to infants.

My challenge is going really well so far. Eating without distractions while I already mentioned makes me more aware of how much I am eating and of full I am. Without distraction I also find myself being more conscious of what Im eating. I used to always get tenders and sandwiches at wow with fries almost always. Without having a distraction when I eat sometimes I may just not be hungry for the French fries since I know I have no good YouTube video or tiktoks to watch. While this leads to a decrease in food waste which is always a positive. Not to mention choosing to not eat fries with all my meals is just healthier and makes me over al more aware of the food Im putting in my body and the impact that food might have like increased weight gain.

After the bulbs, I will continue to limit my usage of power and advocate for others to do the same. Focusing on more intensive power draw where it can save quite a bit of money.

Pushing for renewable energy for the future generations of kids, students, and those who will live on after us deserve to live in a clean or cleaner world that satisfies their needs of survival without having to make the same sacrifices of past generations. Information and availability of the benefits and it's a valid replacement for coal burning.

Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Isabella Schubert's avatar

Although utilizing greener automobiles can reduce exhaust emissions and enhance public health, there are other benefits to driving a more fuel-efficient car. We will save money if we stop buying fuel or gasoline to regularly fill up our gas tanks. The electric vehicle requires no maintenance since it runs on a battery, whereas an internal combustion engine vehicle requires monthly payments to be operated. This makes the electric vehicle a more cost-effective option. Less gas is needed to travel the same distance in fuel-efficient cars. We spend less on gas and reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions when we burn less gas. Making conversion to fuel-efficient cars is advantageous for the environment and personal finances since it saves money while cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
