REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Cook With SeaweedWhat recipe did you make and how did it turn out? Will you cook with seaweed again?
Evelyn Wright 4/16/2024 12:36 PMI decided to make sushi as my recipe that contained seaweed. I went to Adam's and got all the ingredients (sushi rice, seaweed sheets, cucumbers, mangoes, avocados, salmon, canned crab). We made many plates of sushi for his parents and us for dinner. It was a little difficult to make the rolls in the beginning but in the end we started to get the hang of it. We will in the future make more sushi rolls because we had a fun time making them and they turned out really yummy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Plastics AuditWhat was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?
Evelyn Wright 3/12/2024 3:48 PMOne of the hardest items to reduce was water bottles. It was so convenient when I was out to buy a plastic water bottle out of vending machines or grab one at work. I instead started using my reusable water bottle more which saved me from using a lot of plastic water bottles that are not reusable. I also switched to a electronic toothbrush which is cutting my plastic usage down to just the heads of the toothbrush. In the future I could also invest in a bamboo toothbrush instead to save more on plastic usage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 RsWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Evelyn Wright 3/12/2024 3:43 PMThe 5 "Rs" for this challenge are refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle. One R that I can add to my daily practice is recycle. I try to recycle as many products that I can throughout my day between school, work, and home. Another R that I can add to my daily practice is reuse. I have a reusable water bottle that I use everyday for school. My family as repurposes mason jars or other containers to hold leftover food so it doesn't go to waste. I can reduce my plastic usage and buy better sustainable products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Evelyn Wright 2/27/2024 7:23 AM240 Ibs of food for one American a year is a crazy amount of food wastage. That food could be used to feed so many people. I am shocked about how much an average family of four spends on food that they throw away. There is so many other ways to use $1,500 rather than something that has no gain to us or the environment. My family could use that money to pay bills like to pay our cars, heating, etc. We could even use it to by more food in the future that we need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Evelyn Wright 2/27/2024 7:18 AMI usually like to watch Netflix when eating my lunch or once in a while my family will leave the TV on as we eat dinner. My eating experience differs greatly when practicing mindfulness. Emotionally I feel more calm, I eat at a slower pace, and if I am eating with someone I am more present in our conversations. I have also realized that I eat less food because I am more present in how much my body needs and how much I am eating.
