  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 11:14 AM
I do not think my diet is impacting deforestation as I eat organic foods that are from local farmers and we buy our food from eco friendly supermarkets or local farmers markets. I think I can decrease my negative impact by eating less meat and more fruits and vegetables, as well as less processed foods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 11:12 AM
As I learn more about the environmental challenges that the world faces, I begin to be more mindful of the products I use and the lifestyle that I live. Fortunately, I have the resources to act on these thoughts and desires. I am able to drive an electric car which I am proud of. A lot is overwhelming, thinking about the next generation and what they will have to live in is overwhelming. It is scary to think that my health can decline so rapidly. Some parts, such as my peers, make me feel hopeful. I have seen that my generation takes action and schools advocate climate change to students.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate For Greener Vehicles
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 10:45 AM
Advocating for green vehicles in my community connects to my values because I support the reverse of climate change. I do not like having polluted air which can be causes by gasoline run cars. I can get others involved by including them in my car life. I personally have an all electric car. I can show them how efficient and affordable an electric car can be.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, POC, or Immigrants
Which businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 10:44 AM
One business I support is Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. Rihanna is a woman of color and she owns and runs a beauty company. She is very successful and I have already been supporting her. I am also evicted to support small business owned by women. Social media is great way to learn and discover businesses created by women and women of color!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Find a Local Climate-Friendly Supermarket
How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 10:40 AM
The nearest climate friendly supermarket to my home is Sprouts, which is only about half a mile away. I could help supermarkets reduce or phase out of their use of HFC refrigerants by informing them of technology that has low HFC refrigerations. I could also inform costumers and create a sign with information and guidance.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Plastics Audit
What was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 10:21 AM
I think the hardest item to do was plastic utensils from fast food restaurants, I keep a silver fork and spoon and metal straw in my car, but it can be hard to keep track of them and they're not there when I am in a friend's car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Practice the 5 Rs
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 10:20 AM
I could practice my recycling more and remembering what is recyclable and what isn't. I am pretty good at reusing items such as plastic to-go containers from restaurants.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 9:34 AM
Wave energy harnesses the kinetic energy from ocean waves to generate electricity, utilizing devices such as buoys or oscillating water columns.Tidal energy captures the energy generated by the gravitational forces between the Earth, moon, and sun, converting the movement of tidal currents into electricity through underwater turbines or barrages. they compare to other energy sources because they use the natural ocean current to generate energy while other energy sources can require fracking or intense manufacturing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Support Companies Leading in Green Energy
Every dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. Name some companies you know that invest in green energy. How can you support them?

    Lucy Worms's avatar
    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 9:31 AM
Tesla. I know that Tesla not only produces electric cars but they also contribute to the growth of renewable energy. I can support them by buying my next car at Tesla.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Lucy Worms 5/13/2024 9:25 AM
I made sushi. My. mom gets fresh fish from a boating company that she found through other lifeguards. We used this fish to make sushi, in the sushi we used seaweed. This turned out pretty good and I would cook with seaweed again.
