Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro Wind Turbines
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of micro wind.
Electricity
Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal Power
I will spend at least 60 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of geothermal energy and consider investing in this technology.
Electricity
Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy

Learn More about Biomass
Biomass Power
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of biomass.
Transportation
Go by Bike
Bicycle Infrastructure
I will commute by bike 5 miles each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Transportation
Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
High-Speed Rail
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching and advocating for a comprehensive high speed rail network in my country/region.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

Eat Mindfully
Reduced Food Waste
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.
Electricity
Contact Fossil Fuel Companies
Methane Leak Management
I will contact the fossil fuel companies that supply energy in my community and ask how they manage and reduce methane leakage.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?
William Weachter (101) 10/24/2024 7:53 AMI enjoy traveling by bike because it is good exercise and its just nice to have fresh air. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
William Weachter (101) 10/24/2024 7:50 AMWave and tidal energy use the natural ebb and flow of the earth's currents and tides to generate electricity. Unlike solar, wind, and hydro, tidal energy does not rely on the weather or fuels like coal, natural gas, or uranium. They can be hard to maintain, however, because of their placement in the ocean. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
William Weachter (101) 10/08/2024 11:37 AMAfter researching the effectiveness of European high-speed rail, I am severely disappointed in the US infrastructure. If it were available in more places, I would regularly take the train. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
William Weachter (101) 10/07/2024 10:17 AMPreviously, I had heard about biomass, but I had not done much research into it. What surprised me was learning how resource-intensive it is and that it has a very high operating cost compared to other energy sources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
William Weachter (101) 10/07/2024 10:12 AMmicro wind turbines could be placed on top of the large hills surrounding York. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
William Weachter (101) 10/07/2024 6:45 AMGeothermal energy is relatively unknown by the general public, so posting on social media to raise awareness can have a large impact.-
Kenneth Slaysman 10/07/2024 9:38 AMThis is a great idea.
