  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/30/2025 12:07 PM
I learned that wave and tidal energy use the ocean to make electricity, and they don’t pollute the air. Tidal energy is more reliable than wind and solar because tides always happen, but it's not used as much yet because its infancy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
How does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/30/2025 12:03 PM
Using human-powered stuff like walking or biking makes me feel more awake and kinda proud, like I’m helping the planet. It’s not as fast as a car, but it’s fun and I get to see more cool things around me. Plus, it just feels better than sitting all day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/30/2025 11:55 AM
On my daily walks, I’ve noticed cool stuff like birds, nice trees, and people walking their dogs. I enjoy the fresh air and just getting a break from screens. It would be better I there were less trash, though.

Getting out for a walk, you can see the changes that occur, the flower blossoms are just starting where I live and will soon see flowers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/30/2025 10:57 AM
Micro turbines could be put on tall buildings, like skyscrapers, or even on bridges where the wind is stronger. They could also go on the roofs of schools, malls, or power poles. These spots would catch enough wind without taking up too much space.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/29/2025 10:19 AM
You can use the whole vegetable to make your meals better and help cut down on waste. For example, you can blend apple peels into smoothies, cook radish tops in soups, or turn broccoli stems into a crunchy slaw. Even the stalks of celery can be added to salads or used in a veggie stock. It’s a simple way to get more out of your food and try new flavors!

    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/24/2025 6:21 AM
No, I haven't, but what surprised me is that biomass technology allows people to make fuel out of wood, and I had no clue that was possible, so that was cool to learn.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 4/23/2025 10:38 AM
The government might help or pay for the power plant to be built
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 3/18/2025 11:21 AM
The food I eat, like chocolate, cookies, and meat, can hurt the forests because of things like palm oil and soy. To help, I can eat more plant based foods like tofu, almond milk, and vegetables instead of meat. I can also choose foods with healthier ingredients that don’t cause deforestation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 3/18/2025 11:13 AM
CFCs were used for refrigerators, freezers, and compressed gas containers. HCFCs are chemicals in air conditioners that make the Earth warmer much worse than carbon dioxide. countries made a promise to stop using these bad chemicals and use safer ones instead. This helps keep the Earth cooler.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
What did you learn from visiting or researching a dairy farm?

    Jade Walker's avatar
    Jade Walker 3/18/2025 10:57 AM
I didn't research or visit a dairy farm however I did read a chapter in the story of More by Hope Jahren about "raising meat". I learned about how they would put the same type of meat and put them all together and sell it. They are also not even treated well and are raised just to be slaughtered and if we keep shoving cattle together pollution will keep rising because of their farts and burps.
