REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Filippa Waerme 10/27/2025 4:49 PMI was disappointed that there are no climate-friendly supermarkets in Monterey. The closest ones, are in Santa Cruz, where they have 8 of them (including Scotts Valley and Felton), I lived in Santa Cruz last year and was frequently shopping at those supermarkets. They are a little more expensive than some other stores, but not that much different if you are buying groceries with similar production and ingredients background. They should definitely open one in Monterey, I think people would shop there! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
Filippa Waerme 10/27/2025 4:44 PMI was very surprised to see how large my carbon footprint was. I do many mindful choices in my everyday life, but then when I looked into the details of my calculated carbon footprint it made more sense. 4/5 categories, which was food, shelter, goods, services was very low. However, mobility was about 10 times larger than the others. I drive to CSUMB, otherwise I try to avoid driving the best I can. So, I am assuming that the contributor to my large carbon footprint (18.4) is my airplane trips. The majority of my trips are to Sweden to see family and friends, and I go twice a year, and then I usually do 1 or 2 more trips per year. It is difficult for me to cut down my traveling, so maybe I can look into buying an electric bike to ride to school. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Filippa Waerme 10/02/2025 5:45 PMI enjoy the walk by the ocean and the trail. When I walk on the sidewalks and streets to get to the ocean, I am scared to get hit by a car when I’m crossing the road and many times I would have gotten hit if I would have walked when I had the right to walk.
