Same as a leaky faucet, reducing the use of the elevator in our office building by using the staircase on a daily basis, will add up to less overall energy consumption. Assuming the elevator operates continuously during business hours (let's say 10 hours), we can calculate the number of round trips per hour: 60 minutes / 3.33 minutes per round trip ≈ 18 round trips per hour. Calculate the total energy consumption per hour: Assuming an average power consumption of 7.5 kW per hour of operation (mid-range estimate): 7.5 kW * 18 round trips = 135 kWh per hour.

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.

I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions, and opting out of junk mail.

I will avoid buying and using 4 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.

I will complete a plastics audit to see where plastics show up in my life and determine how I can reduce the use of single-use plastics.
