Marissa Torres 10/31/2024 11:07 PMThis month has been so so tough for me it was genuinely hard to even do little things for this project. I am glad I got into a routine for walking though. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Marissa Torres 10/28/2024 10:42 AMI will say, we discontinued the seafood watch app because there wasn't enough traffic and there were too many updates to keep track of to justify keeping the app. However, we still offer the program on the website. One of the biggest "avoids" was california yellowtail which I dont eat. It also says to avoid giant sea bass, white sea bass, shortfin mako shark, surf smelt and Pacific bluefin tuna. None of these are in my diet. I would say that tuna is slightly concerning but I know all about bluefins as I did a project on them. Not only would I just choose not to eat them due to overfishing purposes but I most likely wouldn't be able to afford it in the first place. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Visit the CoastWhat coastal site did you visit and what did you learn while there?
Marissa Torres 10/28/2024 10:31 AMI visited the beach next to the aquarium since that is where I work. I learned about the importance of kelp and how different animals play different roles in the kelp forest ecosystem. I didnt have much opportunity to take a picture over these last two days but I did manage to get one overlooking our great tide pool on saturday. -
Marissa Torres 10/23/2024 12:13 PMLately ive been struggling to even take care of myself but this week ive been making small progress on things such as completing hw assignments, doing the dishes and doing the largest load of laundry ive seen in a while. Anyways on top of motivation issues I have also been busy with a million things. Especially leading up to dia de los muertos which is a very important holiday for me. Today I didnt walk much except to class and the library but I was able to put some of my laundry away and thats one step closer to a cleaner room. -
Marissa Torres 10/21/2024 1:03 PMI do have this app that has been helping me to remember to take care of myself and even do my eco challenge. Its called finch and I have a 39 day streak. This is unusual for me as I struggle to stay focused and motivated to do something everyday. -
Marissa Torres 10/21/2024 1:00 PMThis past week was tough. Ive been going through bad burnout on top of constantly being busy with a million other things. I think the only thing Ive been consistent with (at least mostly) is walking as I have to walk to places to access anything I need. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Marissa Torres 10/07/2024 12:49 PMThe main thing I notice is how hot it is. And then I notice how far apart everything is. I think back to when I used to time my walks to class and some were 20 minutes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn About AquacultureWhat was the most interesting thing to learn about sustainable aquaculture practices?
Marissa Torres 10/07/2024 12:48 PMI havent learned those yet. Since its my first time reading about it, I wanted to learn what it was in the first place as I am not very familiar with this topic.
