I have been doing my service learning at MEarth this semester, it has been special to take part in a local food system. I have been lucky to enjoy some of the food they grow there. I have also been getting the bulk of my produce from the farmers market. The veggies taste better and I know I am supporting a local food system.

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

I've noticed through reducing my consumption of animal products that I feel more energized and that I have a healthier diet all around. I have also noticed that when getting food with friends, most fast food/grab and go food options contain meat and/or products with lots of dairy. It is interesting that while meat is expensive we view fast food as "cheap".

When I went tide pooling, I spent some time watching the tide come in. Watching how big the waves were helped me appreciate just how powerful the ocean is and how lucky I am to live in such a special place.
