Rebecca Tanriverdi-Klein 2/28/2024 7:13 AMI helped to fund family planning this weekend when I hosted a Facebook fundraiser for Access Reproductive Care Southeast for my birthday! REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Rebecca Tanriverdi-Klein 2/28/2024 7:07 AMBy mending, altering, or making your own clothes! Visible mending is a fun way to prevent clothes from entering a landfill and to express your creativity--I attend a mending circle that is hosted in member's homes every other week. I've started to thrift holey or stained sweaters and unravel them, so that I can knit it into something else that I'll actually wear. I also always recommend consignment/thrift stores to everyone; I don't know the last time I bought a new article of clothing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Rebecca Tanriverdi-Klein 2/28/2024 6:54 AMAll of the above. As a child, I wasn't often exposed to local food except for raspberries grown in my grandmother's backyard. Everything else came from a supermarket, wrapped in plastic. Now, I frequent the local food co-op, farmers market, and am going to be participating in a CSA for the second summer in a row. It's great to be able to talk to the local farmers about how their growing is going, as well as how they are coping with climate change-related issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Rebecca Tanriverdi-Klein 2/28/2024 6:38 AMLiving less than a quarter mile from my job means I walk to work every day. It's great to be able to experience the changing of the seasons, connect with people in my community who are also out walking around at the same time every day, and get a little exercise during a part of the day (commute to work) that many people dread. I much prefer walking or biking to being in a car! It's hard to stop a pet a dog on the drive home, but if you're walking...
