  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/11/2024 2:28 PM
I think micro turbines could potentially be installed on any tall building in my city that would not put other buildings in harm. I think clock towers or possibly unoccupied tall structures would work.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/10/2024 7:48 AM
The impact refrigerants have on the climate is they have a high potential to contribute to global warming due to their emissions and possible leakage. Supermarkets contribute to this impact because they contain a lot of refrigerants with a high possibility of leakage.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/09/2024 12:13 PM
It was not necessarily difficult for me to change my diet because these foods make up a small amount of my diet. However I believe that it just took a lot of realization and thinking about my choices before I eat or buy something.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/09/2024 12:11 PM
For me, thinking about my friends and community, inspires me to inform people about the energy issues. I think about what life would be like for me and my family if these issues got worse.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/08/2024 9:58 AM
I address my own feelings of concern and keep them controlled, by only focusing on factors that I can control and have an impact in. By this I mean, I make myself aware and improve my efforts to help climate change. I also try to inform others around me whenever I can.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Green My Job
What actions will you take to green your job?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/08/2024 9:55 AM
To green my job, I will do my best to reduce my waste and make my colleagues aware of their doings. I will also do my best to recycle everything I can. The kitchen that I work in is managed by Sodexo, who's senior director of culinary was interviewed, so we already have great policies in place.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Plastics Audit
What was the hardest item to reduce using or cut out that is plastic? Did you find a way to do it?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/07/2024 1:25 PM
For me, I believe the most difficult item to reduce or cut out was most likely single use plastic water bottles. I used to use them often because they were just easy and quick to grab on the go, but I have started using a reusable metal water bottle and have found that it is actually more efficient! I have found that my drinks actually stay cold and they are easier to bring places.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Practice the 5 Rs
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/07/2024 1:22 PM
I can add the "r", rethink to my daily practice to reduce my waste. By doing this I will be rethinking any actions that I am about to do or have done in the past to reevaluate them and decide if they are positively contributing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Addison Skimski (901)'s avatar
    Addison Skimski (901) 10/07/2024 1:18 PM
Aside from the environmental benefits, other benefits from eating/serving smaller portions could be that it is more healthy for our bodies to only eat what we need to. This could make us healthier in all aspects of life, including diet, sleep schedules, and just feeling like your best self.
