REFLECTION QUESTION

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 11:56 AM"Repurposing" is a big one for me. I think finding a cool new life for things that have run its original course is very beneficial for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 11:48 AMEating more fruits and vegetables, to me, is great for lessening my waste output. Many of these do not have plastic packaging, and can be disposed of naturally or within a composter. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 11:47 AMI am a vegetarian, so I keep away from meat at all times. Eating less meat allows me to diversify my meals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 11:45 AMI like to eat outside during lunch breaks. The nature allows me to be more present. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 8:13 AMBiochar can have beneficial effects; in that it can support soil and plant growth.-
Lydia Roe 6/25/2024 8:38 AMI find horticultural charcoal to be great for my houseplants. My Philodendrons, Monsteras, and other Aroid vines love the chunky texture for aeration and the chemical benefits of decreasing chances of rot/pests. Win-win!

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 8:03 AMI think whenever I go to the supermarket to buy fish, I need to do my homework beforehand. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Evan Shreffler 6/25/2024 8:02 AMI love skyscrapers. I think they can be an efficient use of space, especially in contrast in suburban sprawl. It would be great to use these turbines on these buildings.-
Samantha Niven 6/25/2024 10:19 AMWhile they're an efficient use of space, skyscrapers unfortunately augment the urban heat island (UHI) effect that often exacerbates environmental justice issues that urban overburdened communities face. A mix of micro turbines, green roofs (that absorb both heat and stormwater), and solar panels (which also absorb heat) might be effective ways to incorporate microturbines without perpetuating UHI.
