Climate change is scary, especially seeing the glaciers melt. Deforestation is also frightening for the animals.

An option this website provides is a virtual vacation or vacationing somewhere close so you don't drive far or use a plane.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Watch Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series
What was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/25/2024 12:11 PM
I learned that we all can have a part in reducing climate change. Even our small contributions will make an impact.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/24/2024 7:58 AM
This is because meat is more available in richer countries. We have the money to buy it. Meat can increase the risk of certain diseases and cancers. For the environment, it contributes to deforestation and water pollution.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/24/2024 7:54 AM
When you eat without a distraction, such as your phone, you are more in tune with how much you're eating. The taste is better as that's probably all you are thinking about at the time.

I agree. Eating the old-fashioned way without devices is the best way to enjoy food. I see people eating and just looking at their phones, and it is actually quite sad.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/21/2024 9:32 AM
They add to global warming and they destroy the ozone layer. They use a lot of energy and they often leak causing even more waste products. Supermarkets should look for recycled things and use LED lighting- both use less energy.

    • Gianni Juarez's avatar
      Gianni Juarez 10/30/2024 11:58 PM
I'm aware that refrigerants were harmful but for some reasoning it had not occurred to me that supermarkets were a part of the issue. Supermarkets really should begin to make the switch to reduce contribution.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/21/2024 9:23 AM
Family planning is vital for people to make informed decisions about the number and spacing of their children. This will help them have more success. By family planning, you can control the population.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Fix Leaky Faucets
What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/21/2024 9:19 AM
You can reduce water usage at home, by turning off the water when you brush your teeth and you can take shorter showers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/17/2024 9:29 AM
They could be put near the lake near my house. Turbines work well near a body of water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Alexis Seymour (101)'s avatar
    Alexis Seymour (101) 10/17/2024 9:27 AM
If we eat smaller portions at a time we will know when we are full. This reduces the risk of overeating or not being able to finish what is on our plate. This reduces food waste.
