  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Why is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?

    Brezlyn Pollick 4/30/2025 7:17 PM
Taking action to climate change is important to me because I want to be able to have kids or even family members grow up in a safer and cleaner environment than we are living in right now. I care because I don't want to see the planet we live on continue to be trashed and taken for granted, its the only one we have so we should respect it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

Buildings, the ground, parks, schools and the tops of mountains.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Brezlyn Pollick 4/28/2025 11:00 AM
Asheville can make its climate action plan equitable and socially by prioritizing group engagement, and incorporate social justice principles.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/28/2025 10:50 AM
Yes, it can! it can bring agricultural benefits. Such as enriching soil and boosting its fertility.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/28/2025 6:36 AM
I learned that it is good to have some way to keep track of where everyone needs to be because then you wont forget something and you can make time for everyone. The needs for different people to be in different places is important because they can do what they want.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/24/2025 5:53 PM
You should make sure before purchasing carbon offsets that they are worth it, if it's additional and permanent.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/24/2025 5:47 PM
I learned that energy can be harvested from waves in the ocean! Wave and tidal energy compare to other energy sources such as solar energy because they share similar density.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/24/2025 10:29 AM
No i haven't and I think that it was super interesting! I found that biomass involves the use of perennial biomass to generate electricity and heat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/23/2025 3:23 PM
recycling, because it is a simple task that can also leave a remarkable result. I can also reuse, I took an old cool can I found and turned it into a candle!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Brezlyn Pollick's avatar
    Brezlyn Pollick 4/23/2025 3:06 PM
Some benefits that I noticed while I ate smaller servings was that I could finish all my food and still feel full but not over stuffed with food!
