Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint

I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.

I replaced 12 of my existing light bulbs in the Kitchen and 2 bathrooms with LED bulbs. These bulbs work just as well as the regular ones and save me money.

I took the Max to PSU Campus Recreational Center all 5 days this week and back. The commute was easy because of Portland's public transit infrastructure.

Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

After reviewing the website for my region (Oregon) there are no active warnings. The only listing that mentions "Buy" for my region for the fish that I eat is wild caught Cod. I've used this website's recommendations, the recommendations from the Monterey Bay Aquarium's database, and sustainable labeled fish in my fish consumption practices for quite some time.

    Industry Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

I recycle all papers, metals, and plastics meeting the guidelines laid out by the Portland government website: https://www.portland.gov/bps/garbage-recycling/recycling

I initially didn't know that I had more plastic recycling options until I visited this website so this has increased the amount I'm able to recycle.

Electricity Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

Being a scientist I calculated my carbon footprint using 3 different services: 8 million trees, EPA, and and the Carbon Footprint network. For the EPA I had 13.4 tonnes, 8 million trees I had 16.06 tonnes, and the Carbon Footprint network I had 12.2 tonnes for an average of 13.9 tonnes of CO2 for our household. I did see that we can save 0.002 tonnes or ~6k pounds of CO2 through replacing our 13 bulbs that came with the house with energy efficient bulbs and by driving 1 day less to campus.
