REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

Daniel Pascali 3/17/2024 11:55 AMMy challenge is going good. While I never really gave much thought to expiration dates. I always treated them as law, since I never wanted to get sick. In doing just 30 minutes of research I learned lots about these dates. One of the most surprising to me is that the dates are not regulated by the FDA which I think is crazy, I thought thats something the FDA would be all over. Its impossible to label; in advance when a food will exactly go bad so foods should be good as long as their are no signs of spoilage. Expiration dates have more to do with the foods overall quality and texture as after these dates they are no longer fresh or at peak flavor. I did find these dates should be used when giving formulas to infants. -

Daniel Pascali 3/17/2024 11:46 AMMy challenge is going really well so far. Eating without distractions while I already mentioned makes me more aware of how much I am eating and of full I am. Without distraction I also find myself being more conscious of what Im eating. I used to always get tenders and sandwiches at wow with fries almost always. Without having a distraction when I eat sometimes I may just not be hungry for the French fries since I know I have no good YouTube video or tiktoks to watch. While this leads to a decrease in food waste which is always a positive. Not to mention choosing to not eat fries with all my meals is just healthier and makes me over al more aware of the food Im putting in my body and the impact that food might have like increased weight gain. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Daniel Pascali 2/28/2024 7:44 AMWhile I don't know if I could say eating mindfully is "Healthier", I can say its definitely say it definitely reenforces good eating habits. After I tried eating mindfully I noticed that I enjoyed my food as it was my only source of real entertainment. Chewing was therapeutic in the sense it was a mind numbing action like running. I did also notice I felt fuller sooner and I wasn't hungry as often. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn About Cattle FarmingWhat did you learn from visiting or researching a dairy farm?
Daniel Pascali 2/28/2024 7:31 AMAfter doing research about the cattle industry with a deeper dive into dairy I was kinda shocked to see how cows can be so mistreated. I learned about the industrial dairy farms and how cows there are subject to tight and close living spaces with cruel treatment like repeated impregnantation, forced over milk production and just poor nutrition. Poor nutrition is a problem since if we don’t put good food into the cows then how can we expect to get a good product out of the cows. It just doesn’t make any sense. -
Daniel Pascali 2/28/2024 7:26 AMThis went good. I tried using these meals as a de stress after a lot of studying. Focusing on each bite was very relaxing and I noticed I was almost calmer than I would have been if I just flicked on a YouTube video
