REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Kristiina Nuottimäki 10/11/2024 2:48 PMThis summer I grew tomatoes and herbs on our backyard. Easy, fun and delicious! -
Kristiina Nuottimäki 6/08/2024 10:10 AMJust found a merino-bamboo mixed fabric summer dress. Should be more durable than mere merino, but still warm and breathable.-
Louisa Lubiak 6/30/2024 12:00 PMThank you, Kristiina, for having your team, North of the Sun, compete with my team, SAGE EcoLogicals, through the month of June. My team in New Jersey, USA, was very happy to compete with a sister team in Finland! It was encouraging to see that your team's membership increased by 100% this past month! Keep up the good work! Kippis!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Kristiina Nuottimäki 6/02/2024 10:47 AMIt's easy to find and choose palm oil free margarin in stores, but giving up / replacing coffee and chocolate is hard. Maybe tea instead?-
Nina Ahola 6/04/2024 11:39 AMFrom next January, the EU will take care of this. The Deforestation regulation stops any coffee, palm oil or chocolate or others on the border if it has caused deforestation since 2020. I hope there are some sustainable brands that can prove they haven’t and won’t, otherwise we’ll really have a short supply… -
Louisa Lubiak 6/02/2024 2:06 PMIt is hard to give up favorite comfort foods! For replacing decaf coffee, I enjoy Teeccino, Dandy Blend, or Inka. But I don't know if there are any coffee substitutes with caffeine.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Kristiina Nuottimäki 6/02/2024 10:32 AMInstead of waste, I'd rather spend this on my garden renovation, summer vacation or hobbies.-
Kristiina Nuottimäki 6/03/2024 11:56 PMHi Louisa! Thank you for challenging us, it gives a nice extra content to this. Our team is based in Finland, and it the photo I'm in France. -
Louisa Lubiak 6/02/2024 1:50 PMHello Kristiina, I agree with you! Not only is throwing out food a waste it is a shame that so many Americans do this. Thank you for accepting my team's competition invitation! Are you in Norway?
