  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/30/2025 4:59 PM
To help protect peatlands even if you're far away you can make contributions to an environmental organization that helps protect peatlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
How does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/30/2025 4:46 PM
Redlining relates to equity because the housing developments that are considered to be redlined are also considered to be risky places which means that they are the developments that people with lower-income end up staying in those places because they are cheaper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/30/2025 4:33 PM
Indigenous people have a land management process called monocropping. This process is used to prevent deforestation, mineral, oil, and gas extraction.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/30/2025 4:19 PM
When purchasing a carbon offset you want to be wary of the fact that if you want to purchase one that getting carbon credit is a rigorous process.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/30/2025 10:58 AM
I learned that they date back to 787 A.D. They compare to other sources in ways that they are more predictable and are more expensive, and the least developed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/29/2025 3:19 PM
On my walks I've noticed that many people are driving by and I only see about 5-10 other people walking. I have enjoyed my alone time on many of the walks I've taken, I also like seeing other people and wondering where they're going. Infrastructure changes that could make my walk more enjoyable is the fact that in Biltmore Village, everything is torn down or rebuilding so if that could get cleaned up then my walks would be more enjoyable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/29/2025 2:42 PM
It improves soil fertility as well, and also produces energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/29/2025 11:23 AM
The ground and on buildings, and in water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
What did you do in your volunteering? What did you learn? (Please post a photo if you have one!)

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/28/2025 10:55 AM
Wetlands, Mangroves, and Salt Marshes are very important to many different ecosystems such as many different types of birds, fish, plants, insects, etc. but we are ruining them with our developing, agriculture and other human activities.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What actions will you take to green your job?

    Kendal Moshier's avatar
    Kendal Moshier 4/25/2025 9:17 AM
I don't have a job, but if I did, I would inform people about what we could do, like stop working in isolation and make a checklist.
