Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Learning about filtering Ocean water
I will research ocean water and figure out the difficulties and environmental impacts.
Transportation
Stairs
I will take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.
Transportation
Public Transportation
I will use Public Transit when traveling out of walking distance. I picked this because I don't travel every day or even every week, but I use public transit when I do.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 60 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Land Sinks
Buy Bamboo
Bamboo Production
When they are available, I will purchase products made from bamboo instead of wood, plastic, or metal.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Mekhi Morlin 11/14/2024 11:00 AMThis was a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. I was at PHouse searching through mine and my friend's trays to manually filter out everything recyclable and it was stressful because there would usually be people waiting to throw their things away. Most things that I have that would be recyclable I use until I can't anymore like cardboard boxes. The only thing I don't like about reusing and repurposing things is that because everything comes in packages, they begin to clutter up everything. I like to make things look new and tidy, so it would be a real challenge to keep that while doing this all of the time. -
Mekhi Morlin 9/30/2024 8:05 PMI haven't checked in every day, but so far it is going great. I feel better knowing that my actions have a purpose. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Mekhi Morlin 9/30/2024 8:04 PMI really like the walks. one of the days I went to the zoo and that really improved my mood. I have noticed that I am able to sleep better at the end of the day when I go on walks versus when I don't. I also haven't logged all of my daily walks, but I have walked at least an hour every day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Mekhi Morlin 9/30/2024 8:02 PMI would rather use this money to buy a new iPad to put sheet music on rather than printing it out and using paper. I also don't like wasting food so I usually clean my plate or give it to a friend. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Mekhi Morlin 9/17/2024 7:48 PMThey seem to be readily available. I went to Fred Meyers and most of the options for wooden appliances were made of bamboo so it was very easy to find.
