REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Watch Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 SeriesWhat was an inspiring thing you learned in Drawdown's Climate Solutions 101 Series?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/27/2024 1:36 PMThe most inspiring thing that I learned is by using reusable energy, such as wind turbines I can lower the energy usage by 50%, which is crazy howdy personal effort can lower the usage of energy that much, and inspires me to ask my parents to use solar panels in order to provide energy for our house. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, POC, or ImmigrantsWhich businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/27/2024 1:32 PMthe most women owned business I am excited to support is touchland, created by Andrea Lisbona. I myself have very sensitive skin, and the fact she created a good smelling hand sanitizer that's non-sticky and made for sensitive skin, makes me excited to stay germ free, support a women owned business, and have nice skin. -
madeline mccullough(101) 10/27/2024 1:23 PMAs I move towards the end of my eco challenge, I am proud of myself for taking the initiatives to be economically aware in order to improve the state of the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Retrofitting IncentivesHow can you share what you have learned in your research with others?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/27/2024 1:20 PMI can share what I have learned about retrofitting incentives through social media. By posting links, or reposting post I can bring awareness on the matter, especially new or about to be homeowners who could use retrofitting incentives such as the homeowners energy efficiency loan. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/27/2024 1:17 PMThe next step for me is to turn off lights, and other electronics when I am not using them. I have noticed that I will keep my room or bathroom light on when I am not necessarily using them. By turning off lights while I am not using them, I will save electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about the Legacy of RedliningHow does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/22/2024 8:23 AMCity planning greatly influences equity and climate change because if a city is created with green areas, and using land sustainably can greatly decrease many citizens economic footprint, and decrease the speed of climate change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/22/2024 8:20 AMI learned that tidal and wave energy offer stability , and is considered a highly renewable source. Tidal energy is more consistent that solar energy because solar energy relies mainly on the sun, or daylight, while tidal and wave energy can be produced at anytime of the day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/21/2024 7:24 AMRegularly, I use plastic straws to drink out of plastic cups. I usually drink Starbucks 4 times a week, meaning I waste 4 plastic cups, and 4 plastic straws. Instead of wasting plastic, I can use my own personal cup at Starbucks withs a rubber straw. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
madeline mccullough(101) 10/20/2024 12:01 PMLearning about the seriousness of the environmental challenges we face allows me to be more aware of what I am throwing away, and how every time I use and create waste I am creating air pollution. This makes me feel scared because toxic air is bad for our lungs, and health. Knowing now, that I have so many reusable products available to me, gives me hope that by using reusable products, I can limit my waste, and decrease air pollution. -
madeline mccullough(101) 10/20/2024 11:55 AMAmazing! I am being more aware of the the amount of waste i use, and how to use less waste to reduce my ecological footprint.
