Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.
Electricity
Calculate My Household Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.

Contact Fossil Fuel Companies
Methane Leak Management
I will contact the fossil fuel companies that supply energy in my community and ask how they manage and reduce methane leakage.

Lily Marx 3/22/2024 12:38 PMOne of my cards was to contact a fossil fuel company and ask them about methane mitigation. This seemed to me like a very straight forward task, but it turned out to be way more difficult than I initially expected. I ended up reaching out to the office of fossil energy and carbon management. -
Lily Marx 3/20/2024 11:05 AMSo far, my food waste tracking has been going very well! It's reminded me to use up all of what's left in my pantry before grocery shopping again, which has also been very budget friendly. -
Lily Marx 3/13/2024 6:46 PMMy household's monthly carbon foorprint is about 4.9 tons. Average is about 4. I'm honestly quite surprised about that. We all are pretty conscious about food and fuel, but apparently not conscious enough! -
Lily Marx 3/13/2024 6:38 PMSo far with my daily food log, I've had a lot less food waste than I thought. There have been a fair amount of days with 0 food waste at all! This is probably because I grocery shop solely for myself, and know what I'm typically going to finish versus what I won't. Most of my food waste has been vegetable scraps from cooking.-
Antonio Rovira 3/14/2024 12:19 PMMost of my scraps come from the DC :P sometimes I'm either too full or simply don't want to eat whatever food I happened to grab so now I'm taking much smaller portions.
