REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Share to Social Media: Coastal, Ocean, & Engineered SinksHave you been sharing what you learned throughout Drawdown Ecochallenge? How have people responded?
Petra Marsowicz 5/06/2024 9:53 AMI haven't shared what I learned from the Drawdown challenge, but I do repost things related to eco-friendly habits and awareness of the environment. Some of my friends support by donating and liking what I repost which is the purpose of spreading awareness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Visit the CoastWhat coastal site did you visit and what did you learn while there?
Petra Marsowicz 5/06/2024 9:52 AMI went down to the beach, because living in San Diego makes that quite easy. I went to Marine St. Beach in La Jolla and I learned a lot about the geography of the beach. The sand under the water drops off quite fast, its pretty rocky, and after high tide there is lots of seaweed and seagrass. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Petra Marsowicz 5/06/2024 8:58 AMI realized that when I am walking in nature, I feel more connected to the nature and taking a moment to relax, my problems drift away. I usually listen to music, and let my mind wander when I am out for a walk and I like the wind and the sun and the plants. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Petra Marsowicz 5/06/2024 8:53 AMA couple different aspects of my diet contribute to deforestation, these include livestock which need the room for habitat, especially beef. I can decrease the negative impact and increase the positive impact by eating less beef. Since I currently eat beef at least once a week, so I will just have to eat less. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Petra Marsowicz 5/06/2024 8:48 AMIn my neighborhood, its not very common to use bamboo products, since bamboo isn't readily available anywhere nearby. However, when I was at the hotel and forgot my toothbrush, I had the choice between a bamboo toothbrush and a plastic one, so being eco-conscious, I chose the bamboo one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Petra Marsowicz 5/03/2024 3:26 PMThe biggest thing in my household are the windows. Everything else on the list checks out, except that my windows are old and not insulated. This means that extra energy needs to be used to heat or cool the house, and different toxins can go in and out. Furthermore, using the special pumps for toilets would be a better option to save on water energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Petra Marsowicz 5/03/2024 3:23 PMPeople in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places, because they can afford more meat. They also have more free time from work, so they engage in various activities that may require more protein to sustain. They can also afford delicacies like special types of meat that poorer people can't afford. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Petra Marsowicz 5/03/2024 3:22 PMSomething aside from environmental benefits that might come from eating/serving smaller portions would be that it combats obesity. This is a real problem in the United States, primarily from the fast food and abnormally large food portions that are considered the standard. If we collectively eat or are served less food to begin with, it would create a healthier lifestyle for the entire country. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Petra Marsowicz 5/03/2024 3:20 PMWhen I eat without distractions, I pay more attention to the taste and the portions of what I am eating and realized that I am satsified faster than when I was using a distraction while eating. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Petra Marsowicz 5/03/2024 3:19 PMI think that it is much more important to think before you buy an item of clothing. Rather than impulse purchasing an outfit from a large website, going in person to feel the quality of an item of clothing to make sure that it will last is more sustainable. Also, what I've started doing is repurposing old clothes, like donating them or cutting them up to sew something newer and more modern that I will actually wear again.
