Jose Marquez 10/20/2024 11:50 PMLiving in an apartment complex, I imagine that if everyone in each apartment switched to a solar water heater, this could make a big difference in fossil fuel-generated electricity. If I switched in just my apartment, I don't think it would make a difference, and I probably would pay more for the water heater than the water bill because we don't use a lot of hot water. One thing that I would like to do is talk to the owner of the apartments and see if she would be interested in switching everyone over. I will check in with you guys about this soon. -
Jose Marquez 10/19/2024 10:04 AMBy insulating my home, I decided to learn about where leaking points would be possible in my home, and I learned that most of the time, warm air can leak out through window seals, door weather strips, and even open areas in the attic or under homes. So one thing that I tried, is by checking all of window seals, and it turns out that a couple of my windows were slightly open and I could feel a slight cool breeze coming from my window. So one thing that I did to resolve this was by caulking the open areas in order to seal off the air. I also replaced by door weather strips and added a thicker thresh hold in order to prevent wind coming from my door when it is closed. Especially now that it is getting colder, I think it is important to understand these things because most of the time we use a heater when it gets cold. So by sealing open areas in my home, can allow heat to stay in the house longer and I wont have to use as much energy to warm up my home. -
Jose Marquez 10/17/2024 10:02 AMBack in 2019, I was hired as a canvasser for a solar company called Solar Solaris. My job was to go door to door, finding homeowners, and convincing them to consider buying solar panels for their homes. Most home owners shut me down because the monthly bill I was projecting for their home was more expensive than they were paying for PG&E. So I personally got discouraged on trying to sell solar panels because it seemed that people would end up paying more than their current bill, so it wasn't worth it. Now today since I have done research on improved Solar PVs, I see that there sees to be more benefits to getting solar panels in their home, especially as home owners. One website was able to mention ten benefits to adding solar panels to a home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Improve a Bus StopHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Jose Marquez 10/14/2024 2:31 PMMost bus stops are very simple and it almost feels boring to just be there because there is just a sign and nothing more. Some don't even have shade structures or benches, and I think that we can make bus stops a little more lively. When I was working in construction full time, we landscaped a whole bus stop to have California native plants all around and we built a book box so people can donate or take a book. We also included three trees that will create shade for people waiting at the bus stop in the near future. I think that if we implemented using up dead space at bus stops to build gardens or ecofriendly stops can make a big impact on peoples decision to take a bus or not.-
Kenneth Slaysman 10/14/2024 4:27 PMJose, these are some really good ideas. It could even be done by local community volunteers without any public money needed.

Jose Marquez 10/14/2024 2:24 PMToday was my first time trying seaweed as part of my diet and it was one of the activities on the list that is suppose to be eco-friendly but one thing that I find as a flaw is that most of the seaweed packaging is plastic, so everytime I am eating seaweed, I am still disposing of plastic waste. Is there a type of seaweed that I comes packaged any differently?-
Kenneth Slaysman 10/14/2024 4:58 PMGreat insight on packaging!
