Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Katelyn Lutman 10/27/2024 6:33 PM
Other benefits that can come from eating and serving smaller portions can allow you to hit weight-loss goals, and can allow you to have more food for the remaining days.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/27/2024 6:30 PM
My eating experience differs when I limit distractions because I am able to eat regular size portions, and not over-eat. Also, I find myself feeling more relaxed and being able to enjoy what I am eating.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use More Fruits And Veggies
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/27/2024 6:26 PM
Consuming more fruits and vegetables, compared to meat, can positively affect people on the planet because it helps the planet by conserving land, water, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is due to the lower environmental impact of plant-based foods compared to animal products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/25/2024 7:22 AM
In terms of money, geothermal can be invested through money because homeowners pay over 5,000 dollars to support this type of energy. In terms of time, this type of energy has been invested through cooling and heating systems. In terms of advocacy, such problems of air pollution and water pollution can be affected through this type of energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/25/2024 7:19 AM
My city is surrounded by grassland and is very farm-like. The best place micro turbines could be installed is open plains and water sources around the farm land.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/25/2024 7:15 AM
The next thing I plan to do is spread awareness about this action to my peers. So they can also support energy efficiency.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

    Katelyn Lutman's avatar
    Katelyn Lutman 10/25/2024 7:13 AM
I learned that tidal energy is a energy source that converts the natural ocean tides into electricity. This compares to other energy sources because it is more powerful than wind energy, and overall it is more efficient and sustainable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

No, I have not heard of biomass technology before this challenge. I learned that renewable plant sources are used to create biofuels.
