REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn about Carbon OffsetsWhat are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/23/2024 7:57 AMBefore purchasing an item, think about how the item affects or has affected the environment. For example, when you buy a shirt, you might want to consider the company and how they care for the environment. Are they doing their best to limit the carbon offset set out when producing their products? When purchasing a car, you might want to lean towards electric powered vehicles since they are not releasing Co2 in the atmosphere compared to gas powered vehicles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/23/2024 7:44 AMYes, I found out that biochar also helps in saving water since it holds onto the soil, that way plants can absorb it later. That way you don't have to constantly water your plants. -
Pedrinho Lopes 4/11/2024 5:46 AMToday I found out that agriculture contributes to 24 percent of the Co2 in the atmosphere. I thought that since plants are always collecting Co2, agriculture would not be a problem, but I was wrong. -
Pedrinho Lopes 4/09/2024 7:43 AMToday I found out that there are things all around us that have a lot of carbon footprint, and they tend to go unnoticed. When you look at a chair, you might think it has little to no carbon footprint, but then you think about what it took to make it, and the transportation it needed to get from place to place, you will then realize that it's carbon footprint is not as low as you thought it was. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research Cement AlternativesConcrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/09/2024 7:39 AMDue to the production, transportation and disposal, clothing also has a large carbon footprint. You can find out more about an object and its carbon footprint by doing research. You can also think about how an object got there and what it took to make it. This will give you an idea on its carbon footprint. -
Pedrinho Lopes 4/07/2024 3:51 PMToday I wanted to buy some snacks, but instead of going to the store by car, I decided to walk there since it was only 7 minutes away. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/05/2024 7:33 AMEating smaller portions can result in a healthier lifestyle. It can also help you save some money since food can be expensive to buy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/04/2024 7:52 AMI address my own feelings of concern, fear and despair about climate change by trying to make a difference myself. If there is something I'm doing that's heavily affecting climate change, I will do my best to stop it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn about Local Indigenous PracticesWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/04/2024 7:46 AMIndigenous people manage their lands by using sustainable practices that wont harm anything around them and also using knowledge that they gained from one another. I can apply this to my own life by asking questions before I do something that might affect other things around me. I can also use sustainable practices as well to help the environment.-
Jamie Jacquart 4/04/2024 9:56 AMI was just in Panama and had the chance to visit an indigenous tribe at Enbara. It was amazing to see the connection they had to the land and it's resources and how much they were able to live in consort with nature.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Pedrinho Lopes 4/04/2024 7:38 AMI've noticed more structures and buildings that I haven't really seen before. I enjoyed the view. I think that listening to music through earbuds might make these walks more enjoyable in the future.
