Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Local Food Systems
Plant-Rich Diets
I will source 30 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Land Sinks
Explore My Area
Sometimes protecting nature requires feeling connected to nature. I will invest 120 minutes in exploring and appreciating a natural area in my region, whether a forest, wetland, coastal area, or somewhere else.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics; Reduced Plastics
I will avoid buying and using 20 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Gianni Juarez 10/07/2024 11:16 PMI like to believe that spending time outside provides one with such peace of mind. You can finally relax therefore you are enhancing your sense of place. When you spend more time outside you begin to develop an appreciation for your surroundings. It can be as easy as talking a walk along nice path or going on a bike ride. You could also not listen to music on your way to class; that way you are attentive to your surroundings and be appreciative of the nature around you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Gianni Juarez 10/02/2024 6:45 PMI love using my reusable Ziploc bags for fruit and snacks. My trustee reusable water bottle comes with me everywhere. I also have several fabric totes that I use for groceries or simply shopping around. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Gianni Juarez 10/02/2024 6:36 PMSupporting local farms is a critical aspect in order to create a strong and solid local food system. Small farms aren’t always as fortunate as large corporations, so buying from the is a simple solution.
