  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/21/2025 5:46 PM
It helps me because it helps me be more healthy and eat more nutrinets that I need to grow. It also affects other poeple because I am contributing to the market of fresh veggies and fruits. When I am eating more fresh veggies and fruits I am helping decrease my carbon output which helps the world by decreasing carbon emissions at least a little bit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/19/2025 7:40 PM
Other benefits that might come from eating/serving smaller portions is we might get fuller faster than we expected and we are therefore eating less and we might have health benefits, lower our carbon output, and more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/19/2025 7:11 PM
I could reuse more, there is a lot of things that we could resue but we don't. My family often recycles but we could work on reusing stuff.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/17/2025 8:19 AM
This impacts a lot of my thinking because it makes me wonder what I will do to help more in the future, and it impacts my actions as I do little things like turning off the light and things like that but I can't make a huge impact just yet. It is overwhelming that I ca not do much and there is a lit of problems I can't fix. Im not very hopeful but this organization brings me a little of hope as they continue to do this work.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/17/2025 7:58 AM
In today's daily walk I noticed that there still was a lot of nature that had not been ruined by destructive human practices. I enjoyed seeing that when I walked in my backyard I noticed that we are actually contributing to nature when we planted trees. I enjyoed getting some fresh air and relative quiet. In this specific walk the infrasturcture didn't affect my walk, but maybe a more walkable space could be done because the yard was a little bumpy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/10/2025 1:19 PM
I learned how refrigerants greatly contribute to global warming and if the refrigerants are not properly recycled they can cause a lot of environmental products. The refrigerants can eat up the ozone layer which is very important for the wellbeing of the world and for humans. Supermarkets can contribute to this impact if they do not properly dispose of refrigerants.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/09/2025 7:46 AM
There are a lot of attributes of an offset that you should keep in mind before purchasing it. You should always see if the outcomes of an offset will be worth the cost of purchasing the offset. For example, if you buy an offset that will not be worth the cost in the long run, do not buy it. You should also asses your financial situation in the time of buying an offset. In general, an offset will help you in the long run and will also help the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/08/2025 8:06 AM
I learned that we need family planning because family planning not only keeps a woman safe and allows her to make educated decisions to make a better life for her, her family, and her community it also decreases poverty. I learned that daily planning helps reduce poverty because family planning allows a woman to make a better life for herself and, in turn, make a better life for future generations to come, and decrease the poverty rate. I learned that family planning prevents unintended pregnancies, reduces the number of abortions, and lowers the number of deaths related to complications with pregnancies and childbirth. The needs of different people vary from place to place. This is true because people in third-world countries that do not have as much access to healthcare logically have greater needs than those in high-income countries with more access to healthcare. For example, people in Africa need more than the people of the United States, which, although their healthcare system needs help, still has more access to healthcare than in Africa.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/04/2025 8:25 AM
Our city can make climate action plans equitable and socially just by making sure that land that is owned by low-income members of the community is not stripped away from them, and making sure that they are not displaced from their homes but while at the same time building green spaces. The city can also support businesses of colored people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Sara Jimenez's avatar
    Sara Jimenez 4/03/2025 9:29 AM
You can stop degrading activities, such as agricultural conversion and drainage, and restore waterlogged conditions needed for peatlands to form. You can also support organizations such as the UN Environment Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization and Ramsar Convention.
