REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Mia Iverson 3/26/2025 11:59 PMI learned about a new type of infrastructure called passive housing. And when I heard about this, I decided to do a lot more research around it, essentially it is when the contractors and architects work together to position homes certain ways, or orient them towards the sun in the winter for warmth, and away from sunlight in the summer for cool temperatures. Or by improving window installments and insulation in homes to create less need for electricity. Passive homes can cut electricity usage by up to 90% depending on how effective the home is and the infrastructure. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Mia Iverson 3/26/2025 11:49 PMPeople in richer countries are able to afford more meat products than countries where the price is either much higher, or the economy simply doesn't support any class beneath wealthy to buy meat or expensive produce items. However, eating meat rather than grains and plants, causes more harm to the environment anyways because it requires more energy to maintain livestock and food for livestock, than if we eat straight from the source ourselves. I noticed that by eating less meat myself, I actually feel less bloated and have become more accustomed to meat free meals daily, and even sometimes prefer those meals now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Mia Iverson 3/26/2025 11:41 PMExpressing personality is not about meeting current fashion trends which reinforce buying new clothes rather than reusing and repurposing our old clothes, bringing life to them once again. In my personal wardrobe, and from some additional research, I have found that it is not that hard to sew on patches of old fabrics from tees that are stained in some parts, and use the patchwork to cover holes in other damaged jeans and jackets to reinforce the material for longer use, and to also add new character to the clothes and entice me to wear them more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat are the most pressing issues for women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people in your community?
Mia Iverson 3/26/2025 11:37 PMAs women are forever working towards living up to the challenges of all man-dominated professions in the world, I found a local climate action lobby group in Monterey that helps bring volunteers from any and all backgrounds, and provides opportunities for the community, and women like myself, to interact with policy makers and congress to pass acts and bills in favor of climate action.
