REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Sadie Hudson 4/21/2025 8:34 AMIn my city their aren't very many tall building. if I were to put it somewhere it would be in down town because it uses a lot of energy and that is where the biggest and tallest buildings are located. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Sadie Hudson 4/21/2025 8:30 AMI use a lot of grocery bags that the store provides so I can start to bring in my own reusable bags. Even though one person doing this wont make a big change if many people did it could help. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Sadie Hudson 4/21/2025 6:06 AMThis is because in richer countries people can afford a more diverse diet which includes meat. Unfortunately eating and consuming more meat can be bad for our bodies, because they are high in fat, and our planet because of the process that we use to produce high, efficient and affordable meats. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Sadie Hudson 4/21/2025 5:56 AMI think that since I grew up with one car for the first half of my life carpooling became a big part of it. That is something I still try to do even though we now have two cars. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Sadie Hudson 4/21/2025 5:34 AMI noticed I took more time to finish my food and somehow it tasted better. I liked it more because I was savoring and enjoying what I was eating. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Sadie Hudson 4/18/2025 8:37 PMChoices that I can make is to look into the products that I am buying and see which ones are taking resources from peatlands. Based on that I can make my purchasing decisions around that and try to buy the ones that are peatland friendly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?
Sadie Hudson 4/11/2025 6:07 AMYou need to consider additionality, verifiability and permanence. The Additionality makes sure that these offsets are additional to what would have happened anyway. This keeps it neutral meaning it would've happened without offset funding. The verifiability is making sure that the methods used to verify this are done by a respectable and trustable organization. The permanence is making sure that the reduction being made is permanent and not just temporary because then it wouldn't have a lasting effect. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Sadie Hudson 4/10/2025 5:21 PMI learned how dangerous and bad refrigerants are. I learned that even though we are doing a better job of it they are still leaking into the atmosphere causing a break in the ozone layer. This contributes to global warming including the amount of supermarkets that impact this. Each market uses tons of refrigeration which is needed to keep the produce fresh and when they improperly dispose of them it makes the situation worse. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Sadie Hudson 4/10/2025 6:54 AMIn different places and cultures the need for different people differ from place to place. Like in some cultures women are getting married and starting their life by the age of 15 which we are now trying to prevent. For example, America has a completely different lifestyle and culture compared to other parts of the world which means we require different jobs from people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsCities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Sadie Hudson 4/08/2025 6:04 AMAsheville can plan out where in the future they want to put future green areas. My mom is an architect and she always works on city infrastructure an I think it would be smart to look and try and predict what consequences would come from putting it in each area and put it in the place with the least amount of consequences.
