  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 3:21 PM
Smaller portion sizes can also lead to health benefits because you eat until your full, not until you clear plate of food which can cause over eating.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What are the most pressing issues for women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people in your community?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 2:57 PM
A lot of women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people are at risk for domestic violence. This is such a pressing issue that we as a society need to eliminate.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 2:52 PM
I am always mindful of waste when throwing things out and consider the "Rs" each time. It makes me feel happy to positively benefit the planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 2:50 PM
By shopping second hand at thrift stores or online on websites like depop!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
Which businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 2:45 PM
There are lots of women owned businesses I love shopping at in West Asheville. Specifically rEvolve and Twice Round Vintage!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Have you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 10:02 AM
Yes. I was spending time under a try by a stream and I felt very at peace in a way I hadn't felt in a long time. I think nature really has an ability to help us reconnect with ourselves.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 9:59 AM
I've really noticed the beauty of nature. I've most enjoyed how clear minded and happy I feel afterwards. I think my walks could be more enjoyable if the city prioritized walking as a form of transportation and built more to make that possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 9:55 AM
People in richer countries have better access to luxuries such as meat and often lean towards over consumption compared to someone in a poorer country. One way eating meat affects us/our planet is excessive meat consumption leads to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and animal abuse.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
What coastal site did you visit and what did you learn while there?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 9:50 AM
I visited Folly Beach and Isle of the Palms in Charleston, SC. While there I was reminded how small humans are in the grand scheme of life and how we are just another part of the flow of nature.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
How close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?

    Ella Herr's avatar
    Ella Herr 4/21/2025 9:46 AM
The nearest climate friendly supermarket is unfortunately several hours away. While it's not realistic to shop hours away, it is possible to shop environmentally friendly by getting a good portion of groceries from local farmers markets. I think an important step in encouraging local grocery stores to end the use of HFC refrigerants is first making sure people are informed on the danger of it.
