REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Gabriel Hauter 10/30/2024 2:10 PMAs a child, I only had access to my parents' cars and never took any buses as there were none around to take. Everyone rode around in cars, as such cars felt normal and things such as trains and buses felt foreign. I never had any real thoughts about buses until I took them later in life. Now they just seem normal. Although, I have noticed that my family members and some coworkers look down on them. Mentions of bus violence and such. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Gabriel Hauter 10/30/2024 2:04 PMWe eat more meat due to better availability as well as low prices. This system has been in place for so long that we have gotten used to having meat with the majority of meals. Overconsumption of meat can cause a variety of health issues and negatively affect the environment due to the sheer amount of greenhouse gas created by the meat industry. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use More Fruits And VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Gabriel Hauter 10/30/2024 1:58 PMThe increase of fruits and veggies in my diet has greatly improved my vitality. I feel like I have a lot more energy than I used to. In addition, it helps reduce greenhouse gas so it's a win-win! -
Gabriel Hauter 10/28/2024 3:09 PMI found out that the school ID doubles as a bus pass yesterday, I wish I had known that in advance but either way, it is very useful. Other than that everything has been chugging along just fine. Nothing much to report just completing my daily tasks. I am going to look for new recipes to use for meat-free meals to spice up my diet though. -
Gabriel Hauter 10/12/2024 9:21 PMAll three of my pledges are daily challenges. Those being, One meatless vegetarian or vegan meal a day, trying to eat 4 cups of fruit or vegtables, and traveling 5 miles by bus a day. The meatless one was easy enough, I just began eating eggs in the morning without and bacon or sausage with a banana. In order to fufill the cups of fruit/veggies I began to cook all my meals at home. I started making rice based meals such as beans and rice or dirty rice with peas, carrots, corn, ect. The one that I struggle with the most is the bus travel. While I don't drive I have gotten rides places in the past which was much more convienient. Shifting to only the bus has been a bit of a struggle as the bus schedules can be quite inconvinent for my schedule and add half an hour or so to my commute. But alas, these sacrifices must be made for the planet.
