REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/30/2025 11:21 AMI learned that the need for family planning is very big. Women need the access to help if they don't want kids or more kids. But people need the right resources for the things that they need, and sometimes those needs can't be met. This can be because of lack of information, resources, or support. The needs of people in different places compare to each other because someone living in a rich country will have easier access to things they need than people living in a poorer country. They will have easier access to birth control, support, and information than those living in poorer countries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/30/2025 10:48 AMI learned that it's a very good source of energy, it's renewable and doesn't release carbon emissions. Compared to other energy sources, I think it's a little better because its not as intermittent as others we looked at. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhat was the most interesting thing to learn about sustainable aquaculture practices?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/29/2025 11:18 AMIt was interesting that they kept the fish together to farm them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/29/2025 11:15 AMI think that they could be placed on the tempie avery center, maybe in Aston park, and other parks. They could also be put downtown and in the river arts district. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/25/2025 7:14 AMOn my walks, I have noticed that different parts of my neighborhood have very different architecture, and the houses look very different. I have enjoyed walking with a friend whenever I do. I usually only walk in my neighborhood, so it looks nice and it's enjoyable now. There doesn't need to be a change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Ingrid Halvorson 4/24/2025 11:08 AMNo. I learned that it is a way cleaner way of getting electricity. The whole thing was surprising to me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/23/2025 10:39 AMWe can invest in geothermal energy by putting money into it, because the money will come back out and it's a good investment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/21/2025 9:26 AMSpending more time outdoors gives a better appreciation for what's around me. And it helps us be mindful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/21/2025 9:24 AMI could recycle old school papers instead of throwing them away or keeping them somewhere when I don't need them anymore. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Ingrid Halvorson 4/21/2025 9:22 AMI can appreciate the food I'm eating more and I can talk to my family or friends instead of just looking at my phone.
