Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 15 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Food Waste
Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Genevieve Ferrera 3/24/2026 8:14 PMI would rather use this money towards housing, transportation , and other necessities. -
Genevieve Ferrera 3/23/2026 12:59 PMBecause of this action and being more mindful I have been eating better portioned meal and reducing my overall food waste. Similar to some of my classmates this morning I had a perfect portion of breakfast after the gym. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Genevieve Ferrera 3/22/2026 5:02 PMOne of the ways that I have started to use more of the R's in my daily practices is to make a conscious effort when I purchase something or eat something. I ask myself "is this something I absolutely need right now?" or something I will use all of and it's a lot more effective. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Genevieve Ferrera 3/13/2026 9:06 PMI have noticed that while our campus is fairly walkable, what surrounds it is not as much. It's really nice that it's easy to get to nearby stores and bus stops, but in certain areas the sidewalk tends to cut off which can be funky to navigate. -
Genevieve Ferrera 3/11/2026 5:13 PMKeeping track of my food/what I eat has helped me to reduce waste a lot. If you are mindful about what you put on your plate it can really help to reduce waste. You can always go back for more, but getting to much is just wasting.
