  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
What did you learn from visiting or researching a dairy farm?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/21/2025 9:20 AM
I learned that at my uncles dairy farm, he keeps the cows in relatively spacious stalls compared to some other farms, and he lets his cows out to graze in a field for the majority of the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/10/2025 12:21 PM
I learned that refregerants can create chlorine that then damages our ozone layer which lets harmful UV rays into our atmosphere. Supermarkets contribute because they need to refridgerate a lot of things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/09/2025 9:05 AM
There are a few parts pretaining to a carbon offset that one should consider diligently before purchasing one. Firstly, are you able to put this offset into practice safely? Secondly, will purchasing it eventually contribute to more carbon output? These are both very good questions you should ask before purchasing a carbon offset.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/08/2025 9:24 AM
Some benefits that would come from smaller portions are health benefits because overeating can cause health problems.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/08/2025 9:19 AM
In this report, I learned how a lack of education about and access to modern methods of contraception can cause major health problems for both women having children and the children that they have. Many women in underdeveloped countries dont have access to good methods of contraception, and are often not taught about it in the depth that is needed to make educated choices. When contraception isnt used, there is obviously the risk of becoming pregnant, but many methods of contraception also protect against STDs such as HIV, which could be potentially life threatening.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/07/2025 9:48 AM
Some of the barriers women face in my community is the gender pay gap, sexism, and acts of sexual violence.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

We could put cheaper housing options in other places or just not charge as much for people to live in the RAD and keep the rent down, because if theres low rent more people will live there and if more people live there the landlords might even make more money.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/03/2025 9:27 AM
Something you can do to help protect peatlands is you can buy less things containing palm oil and convince others to do the same, and you can use less paper based products, like write and read stuff digitally. You could also protest or contact government officials.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/02/2025 9:50 AM
People in richer countries eat more meat because meat is expensive, and people who have more money can buy more meat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Atticus Eaton's avatar
    Atticus Eaton 4/02/2025 9:26 AM
My diet is impacting deforestation because my family regularly cooks with vegetable oil, which can be made of palm oil, and the soaps we use contain vegetable oil I believe. I could start trying to find soaps that don't contain vegetable oil to increase my positive impact.
