REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Bailee Driver 4/29/2025 11:51 AMThere will be less food wasted and it can help a person save money if they eat the amount of food they serve. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Bailee Driver 4/29/2025 11:48 AMThere could be micro turbines placed on the city hall or the courthouse, along with any other tall buildings around. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhat was the most interesting thing to learn about sustainable aquaculture practices?
Bailee Driver 4/29/2025 10:52 AMI think it was interesting how wide the usage of Aquaculture spread, and how much work is needed to be done to effectively use aquaculture -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Bailee Driver 4/23/2025 11:08 AMThere was a mention of it in a book we're reading for class, but this was a deeper dive on the topic. I think it was most surprising seeing the usage of Manure and natural resources to generate electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Bailee Driver 4/23/2025 10:39 AMThere are many ways to invest in geothermal energy. A person can donate money as an investment, or something as big as their time by advocating for it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Bailee Driver 4/02/2025 10:57 AMI haven't heard of "silvopasture" before. I think the biggest advantage is the diverse ecosystem silvopasture brings. There will be many things growing and interacting in one area that can be controlled to bring a positive impact on the animals, crops, and the farmer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Bailee Driver 4/01/2025 10:59 AMUnderstanding the difference between the different expiration dates can allow people to make better decisions about their food, which will lead to less food waste when followed properly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?
Bailee Driver 3/20/2025 11:22 AMI think it's super important to work towards having a healthy environment to live in. Some people aren't willing to take the first step and will follow when someone does. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Bailee Driver 3/18/2025 11:20 AMI learned that products like chocolate and coffee both use palm oil which is causing deforestation. To combat this I could eat less processed food, and choose Rainforest Alliance certified coffee and chocolate.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Bailee Driver 3/18/2025 11:11 AMI learned that CFCs were used in refrigerators, freezers, and compressed gas containers like hair spray. Scientist learned that these CFCs were obliterating the Stratosperic Ozone layer so HCFCs were used as a substitute.
HCFCs are around 1000 to 9000 times more useful in trapping heat than CO2.-
